There are some enemy encounters, but the game encourages you to either avoid encounters altogether or runaway from them when possible. Using the Horror Monitor, players can disarm traps and find items to help them at the expense of adrenaline. Instead, Illbleed is more about avoiding jumpscares in the form of traps and keeping your vitals in check throughout the levels. The game is very unique among survival horror games as it doesn't focus on attacking enemies like the many Resident Evil clones at the time.
